A kid's playroom or bedroom is meant to be fun and colorful. It has never been easier for you to design your very own curtains for the kids. Use our simple online design system to get creative with your customized curtain, and maybe even have them help out! Or maybe you're looking for a more sophisticated personalized curtain set for one or more rooms in your house. Again, design your own custom made curtains using our online design system and instantly enhance your living space!
Step 1: Measure
You need to carefully measure the area where you want the customizable curtains to cover and consider if you need a pair or just one (or multiples). But you don't simply take that measurement, as your custom curtains will look like a flat sheet against the window when pulled to. You need to account for the pleats/ruffles/fullness. Typically, for a tape heading, this is 2x the area, and 1.8x the area for eyelets. For example, if your window is 39.37" (1m) wide, you need approx 78.74" (2m) of fabric, so make sure you calculate this before you enter your dimensions.
Please note: We advise to consider an additional 0.39" (1cm) of fabric all around, for hemming and in the case of fabric shrinkage. Fabric shrinkage can be 2-6%, so please consider this when designing your personalized curtains.
Step 2: Choose your Hanging Style
We offer the choice of wire hanging 0.59" (1.5cm) flat tube to fit 0.15" (4mm) cord (photo 1), pencil heading tape 2.95" (7.5cm) /3" (photo 2) or eyelets (photo 3). Our eyelets are either 1.57" (40mm) or 2.56" (65mm) (internal diameter) in silver or black. You need to arrange your own pole and take into consideration the size and positioning to allow the right amount of curtain you need. Our tape heading is a strong strip of curtain heading that allows you to use your existing runners and hook your new customized curtains onto the rail nice and easily. If you are replacing old curtains is it easy to measure the existing curtains and use those dimensions if they were a good fit.
Step 3: Choose your Lining
We have 4 options for curtain linings; unlined, blackout lining, 1 layer lining and 3 layer interlining.
- Unlined is the simple Suede Vision textile we use as one single layer
- Lined is our Suede Vision textile with 1 layer of lining (quality ivory lining)
- Blackout Lined is our Suede Vision textile with 1 layer of blackout lining in cream (dense weave - no light shines through)
- Interlined is our Suede Vision textile with 2 other layers. 1 middle liner of quality wadding with an ivory lining at the back. This gives a premium look and handle.
Step 4: Upload your Photos
Once you know the dimensions you are ready to design your custom made curtains in our system. Simply add the graphic, edit it, rearrange it etc so it's exactly how you want it and we will do the rest.
NB: We can print any size, however, for widths over 59", we may need to produce the custom curtain from multiple panels, stitched together. We will contact you via email to get your confirmation before we print and produce.
Custom Curtain Manufacturing Process
Our materials for making our custom curtains are of the highest quality. Our textile we use for the custom made curtain is called Suede Vision, and has a built-in blackout backer. Not only is it great to the touch, but it is fire rated. But the best part about our customizable curtains is the stunning print that we are able to provide. We use edge to edge printing techniques so that you have an all over color print with no leftover white space.
Sizing Your Photo Curtains
We are able to produce custom size curtains for that perfect, custom fit in your home. For example, you can have specialty short curtains or custom long curtains. Any way you want them, we are able to make them.
However, please keep in mind that accurate and precise dimensions are crucial to the outcome of the customizable curtain. Be sure to accurately measure the window, doorway, or space that is to be filled by the curtain to that you end up with the best quality picture curtain possible. Remember: measure twice, cut once!
Please note: We advise to consider an additional 0.39" (1cm) of fabric all around, for hemming and in the case of fabric shrinkage. Fabric shrinkage can be 2-6%, so please consider this when designing your customized curtains. When you select our fire-rated lining or our blackout lining your curtains will be naturally heavier in weight.
TIP:If you want to calculate the amount of textile you need, you have to allow for the ruffle, the pleats or the fullness. Fullness is 2 x the area for tape heading and 1.8 x the area for eyelets. This is a calculation you need to make BEFORE you design you curtains. ONLY enter your dimensions in our design system when you know the correct dimensions fullness have been evaluated.
